Our Balloon Launch Sites

We select the launch site on the basis of the prevailing wind direction and weather patterns (which launch site we are using will be confirmed when you call the Flight Information Line). The reasons for moving a flight to a back up launch site can vary, the wind may be heading in the wrong direction (e.g. it may be heading directly into the Bristol Airport airspace or out over the sea), or the launch site may not be available for us to use. None of our back-up launch sites are more than 15 miles away from our ‘first choice’ site.

Bristol Balloons go ballooning in the following areas:

Balloon Rides from Bristol

Depending on wind direction you might fly over The Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol Harbourside, The SS Great Britain and The Matthew (if it is in Bristol), Bristol Zoo, St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol Cathedral, Blaise Castle House Museum and Tyntesfield House.

Ashton Court Estate, Kennel Lodge Road BS41 9JN. Follow the brown signs to Ashton Court Estate. Enter via Kennel Lodge Road, off the A369 Clanage Road, Bower Ashton. Lockside Restaurant, Brunel Lock Road BS1 6XS. The nearest landmarks are the large swing bridge over the Cumberland Basin and the Nova Scotia public house. Entry to Brunel Lock Road changes if the bridges are being swung. Please park your car safely and legally, as we may have to take you to our launch site. (If you are on Mc Adam Way you are literally ‘on top’ of the restaurant which is under the elevated section of this road). NB: Parking in this area is subject to differing regulations regarding duration and/or charges. Please read the information signs for the area you are parking in. Do not assume that conditions apply to the whole area around Brunel Lock Road.
